Three-phase-Synchronous

EEE

Three-phase synchronous machine can operate as a motor or a generator, running at a constant speed called synchronous speed, determined by the frequency of the AC supply and the number of poles. In motor operation, a three-phase AC supply to the stator winding creates a revolving magnetic field, while a DC supply to the rotor winding creates a magnetic field. When these fields align and lock, the motor rotates at synchronous speed. Synchronous motors are used for heavy, constant-load industrial applications and situations requiring precision timing, such as clocks and timers.
